Obituary for Lonnie M. Dixon
Lonnie Maurice Dixon was born December 8, 1963 to Lonnie Dixon Jr. and Joyce A. Dixon in Wilmington, Delaware. Lonnie entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2016.
Lonnie was raised in New Castle and attended the Colonial School District graduating from William Penn High School in New Castle, DE. He also attended and graduated from The Brandywine Beauty Academy to obtain his cosmetology license. Lonnie finished his apprenticeship and was last employed with Labor Local 199 as a Journeyman. As a laborer for the Union, Lonnie helped with the constructing of many buildings all over the state, including the New Castle County Police Department Headquarters, and The Wilmington Courthouse on King Street. He also volunteered at the Rose Hill Community Center assisting with donating food for those who were less fortunate.
Lonnie enjoyed any job or project where he got to build with his hands. Lonnie was known as a jack of all trades when it came to building or fixing things. He’s built dozens of peoples decks, gardens, and even built a pond in his backyard for his mother.
Lonnie enjoyed hanging out with his friends and family. He also loved watching his favorite team play the Philadelphia Eagles.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his brother, Rahsaan Dixon; grandfathers, William Harris, Lonnie Dixon Sr.; grandmothers, Dorothy Harris and Johnnie Beatrice Normand; aunts, Vera Newman, Joan Everett, Sara Normand, Elise Finney and Betty Jones; uncles, Bobby Love and John Love.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his father, Lonnie Dixon Jr; mother, Joyce Dixon; son, Darnell Dunn; sisters, Sheryl Johnson, Faniel Mathis; grandchildren, Kamyira Dunn, Mikaylah Dunn; nephews, Rahsaan Dixon, Rakim Dixon, Rahdeein Dixon, Kyreif Johnson, Isaiah Johnson; nieces, Tonaisha Johnson, Nevaeh Dixon, Naezia Dixon, La’Kihla Mathis, Lailah Mathis; mother of his son, Karen Dunn; devoted friend, Nita Evans, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
