Obituary for Michelle D. Swinney

Michelle D. Swinney
Michelle Denise Swinney was born December 26, 1978 in Camden, New Jersey to Shavon Williams and Michael Swinney. From 1995 until her transition she shared her life with her father and mother.

Michelle departed this life on March 14, 2017 in the Christiana Care Hospital of Newark, DE surrounded by her sons, Tajmere and Larry and her loving, supportive companion, Richard Harrigan.

Michelle received her education in the Camden School District, last attending and graduating from Wilson High School. While there she was very active on the Cheerleading Squad before making Wilmington, DE her home.

She was previously employed with the DuPont Company, Kmart, and the Christiana Care Hospital’s Laundry Department for the past four years.

Chelle, as she was known by her friends, was a loving and dedicated mother to her two sons as well as her longtime companion, Richard Harrigan. She was also a “Daddy’s Girl.” Chelle and her father had a bond that could not be broken.

She loved people, laughing and having a good time. Since the age of eight, she had a group of girlfriends who called themselves “Girls on the Move.” They formed a dance team and were great tap dancers and enjoyed sharing their talent with the community. Throughout the years, Chelle, Tiffany and Chennoa Pollitt remained lifelong friends.

Michelle was known to be a stylish dresser, and was great at making her delicious macaroni and cheese and banana pudding.

Michelle leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Tajmere and Larry of Delaware; parents, Pastor Michael and Verna Swinney of New Jersey; mother, Shavon Williams of Delaware; sisters, Thembi (Demetrius) of North Carolina, Khadija and Tyshara both of Delaware and Latoya of New Jersey; two special sisters, June (Nate) and Tia and her BFF Peyton all of Delaware; three brothers, Sherron and Terrance of New Jersey, Saleem of North Carolina; grandmother, Rosetta Swinney of New Jersey; special aunt, Nydia of New Jersey; companion Richard Harrigan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
