Obituary for Edgar H. Johnson, II
Edgar H. (Guns) Johnson was born on May 17, 1927 to Mildred W. and Edgar N. Johnson in Wilmington, DE. He was the second of four children. He departed this life on April 14, 2017 at Genesis Hillside Rehabilitation Center.
Edgar was educated in the following Wilmington Schools: Number 5, Number 29, and Howard High School. After graduation, Edgar enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. Returning to Wilmington after the war, Edgar continued his education at the Carver Vocational-Technical School.
He then was employed at the John A. Carlson Men's Clothing Store, New Castle County Public Libraries, driving the bookmobile and the State of Delaware Superior Court as a Supervisor of Court Clerks in the New Castle County Prothonotary's Office from which he retired. Edgar was a member of the Wilmington Monday Club for 59 years.
Edgar was very athletic and enjoyed playing, football, basketball, softball, bowling and his passion, golf.
He was proceeded in-death by his father and mother, two sisters, Lottie B. Hope and Barbara E. Huff and son, Darren L. Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bernice; daughters, Pastor Judith R. Brown (Martinez), Shernice Charles of Florida; three grandchildren, Darren L. Nelson, Shelby R. Nelson, Ernst Charles of Florida; one great-granddaughter, Sylah Rae Nelson-Granger; sister, Jacqueline M. Johnson, devoted friend of 75 years Charles F. (Charlie) Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.
