Obituary for Salathiel M. Gaymon Sr.
Salathiel Merrill Gaymon (Slate) was born on October 19, 1953 in Wilmington, Delaware. He departed this life on April 26, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Delaware.
Slate was the son of the late Reverend Milton Gaymon and Ethel “Marie” Gaymon. He received his early education in Wilmington Public School. Slate proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1972-1975 and worked as a chef. While in the Marines he was awarded the rifle marksman badge. When Slate was honorably discharged from his commitment in the Marine Corp, he attended Delaware Technical Community College and obtained an Associate’s degree in Retail Marketing.
After leaving college Slate became an Independent Financial Consultant. He was licensed and certified in all lines of insurance, nationally certified mortgage originator, attained Series Six for mutual funds. Slate had more than 35 years of experience, marketing a variety of products and services with extremely high levels of productivity. His sales career awarded him a plethora of accolades and licenses in the states of Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Slate held a Black Belt in Karate and won many awards. He was a personal trainer in Karate and fought in many competitions. Slate attended a prestigious drama and art school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and majored in acting. He exhibited his acting skills often in local theaters and church drama events. Slate was a professional musician who felt the most pride playing his Bongos for several churches. His favorite musician was Bob Marley and song “Redemption. Slate loved to entertain his family and friends with his favorite dishes, and eating them in the process.
Slate had unconditional love for his family, children and grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Shelatia Dennis (Tyrell) of Dover, DE, Salathiel M. Gaymon (Pamela) of Lancaster, PA, Shomari M. Gaymon of New Castle, DE; one brother, Sherwood Gaymon of Springfield, MA; (6) grandchildren, Tyree, Tyere, Cameron, Donovan, Elijah, Mason; his faithful companion, Seslie E. Johnson; (2) uncles, William T. Wilson (Iris) of Dover, DE, Reverend Paul Wilson (Idel) of Newark, DE; (1) aunt, Margaret Washington of Dover, DE and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
