Obituary for Lynda Martin
A Call to Serve
Lynda Gayle Martin, 56, departed this life on Sunday, July 30, 2017. She was born on Sept. 4, 1960 to the late Jean J. Martin and the late Henry Pannill. In addition, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret E. Martin. The third of six children, she was very nurturing, always making sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to do.
She was a proud graduate of the Martinsville High School “Mavahi” Bulldogs Class of 1978. She was an avid “track athlete” excelling in sprint (relays) and most notably, the hurdles.
A few years later, she enlisted into the United States Army and began her military career. While serving her country, Lynda enrolled at Wayland Baptist University and received her Associate of Applied Science Degree and one year later, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education.
Due to her exemplary leadership skills, she received many accolades and commendations. Her twenty-three year tenure in the Army awarded her the rank of SGT. 1ST CLASS. Several years after retiring, she worked at Dover Air Force Base and later, at ODAR as a senior case technician until her illness.
Lynda accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA. She later made Worship Christian Center, Camden, DE her church home, where she gave love and received love.
She is survived by: one son, Clavon “Rico” Martin at home, two sisters, Velma Martin of Martinsville, VA and Iris Penn of Browns Summit, NC.; two brothers, Gary “Randy” Martin of Los Angeles, CA and Michael Martin of Martinsville, VA; 7 nieces and nephews; 9 grandnieces and nephews; one aunt, Ms. Ann Farrington of NJ; two uncles, Joseph Martin of Washington, DC and, William “Bill” Martin of Martinsville, VA; many cousins and her special childhood friend, Ms. Annie Holland Mahan and a host of other friends too numerous to mention.
Lynda will forever be remembered for her selfless giving heart, ability to take charge, give commands, love of plants and, her fashion STYLE!! SHE WORE IT WELL!!!
